SF-ADAPT

SF-ADAPT is a collaborative alliance that connects small-scale farmers with researchers, nonprofits, and technologists to co-create tools that work on smaller farms. The goal is to ensure that agricultural innovation reflects real-world needs—especially for operations that are often overlooked by mainstream agtech

Who Its For

SF-ADAPT serves small- and medium-scale farmers, particularly those in California's Central Valley. The program also engages technology developers, researchers, and community organizations committed to advancing agricultural practices.

Key Features

  • Local Ag Technology Events – Workshops and continuing education sessions on topics such as taxes, digital technology, production technology, and farm management. Some offerings provide CEUs for Certified Crop Advisors.

  • Innovation Connection – Connects farmers with technology developers to trial innovations on-farm and collaborate on pilot projects.

  • Testing and Demonstration Sites – Utilizes UCANR’s Kearney Agricultural Research and Extension Center to host real-world testing and equipment demonstrations.

  • Networking Opportunities – Provides stipends and support for small farmers to attend key agricultural and technology conferences.

  • Small Farm Innovation Challenge – Annual competition inviting practical, tech-enabled solutions for small-scale agriculture from farmers, entrepreneurs, and students.

  • Tool Sharing Library – Offers access to shared equipment and tools, supported by demonstrations and training through Kearney REC staff.

F3 Local is part of the larger F3 Initiative, awarded funding in 2022 by the U.S. Economic Development Administration’s Build Back Better Regional Challenge. This Agrifood Technology and Engineering Cluster is working to position the Central Valley’s ag-based industry and farmers to be competitive, resilient, and sustainable.
